This new year did start off quiet and uneventful UNTIL...... I heard from a friend from many years ago....This is one of the ladies that I went to Spain with. we talked about that trip and all that happened :)
BIDET! and Catholic Nuns..... That is what this post is about the story of NUNS...okay, Us becoming Nuns on a train from Madrid to the coast of Spain on the way to Tangiers, Morocco.
We ladies of 6 boarded an over night train, so excited , traveling with our knowledge of the language, customs , really, the lack of, should be stated. We had two sleeper cabins, 3 in each...for safety..YEAH RIGHT!
While at the station waiting for the departure, a group of young men started circling us, whistling and touching their arms and trying to rub up against them and as my girlfriends said NO MOLESTO okay, more of a YELL over and over again....people were stopping and looking at us, not good. I had enough of this spectacle....I spoke in a hush voice and tone and explained, who we were......Oh did I forget to say, I never told my girlfriends of what I was going to say :) We became Catholic Nuns...It was the only thought I came up with in a moment of notice, not the best option as I learn as the night went on..
As we board the train and found our cabins, thankfully they were located beside each other. We had an inspiration, let's go to the dinning area and then to the lounge, As we made our way, Load and Behold, who do we run into...The group of guys from the station....... They stood and bowed at us as we passed, One young man asked for forgiveness, not knowing what was going on, still did not let my friends know what was said, I waved my hand and responded with all is forgiven...... The girls looked at me as I was carrying a Bidet with me..... When we finally reached the lounge I was jumped on, They wanted to know what I had said to the guys and why they were bowing. As I explained, one friend exclaimed, oh hell, here we come and Mary is the first to go......I rolled my eyes and responded with, at least they are leaving us alone. After an hour or so, I was tired and wanted to go to sleep.....I left them alone and made my way back to my cabin..not 20minutes later I heard this yelling of my name and 5 girls rushing into my cabin.....The young men were following....really, are we playing out a scene from The Three Stooges? This cabin is barely big enough to 4 skinny little people not a group of NUTS!....I never made it out of my bunk, girls were stepping on me to make it to the top bunk and the guys were yelling and whistling...No conductor was to be found......Thinking to myself, OH GOD we are going to disappear, never to heard from again......The truth came out somehow while I was in my cabin and these guys were on the hunt for fresh meat......
I was able to get to my feet as one guy is pushing his way up the ladder to the bunk above me, I started to yell in French and Spanish and in English, scared the crap out of myself and the mass of legs and arms of the other people in this tiny cabin. I finally got control of this mess, not sure how but did not care, got the guys to step out and I locked the door behind them, they stood there trying their damn-ness to get me to open the door after 20 minutes of this they left, what was left was 6 girls stuck in a cabin that was for only 4 people not able to sleep, mad at me, mad at themselves for spilling the truth, come to find out they could not keep up with the charade. No one left the cabin until the morning.
I was tired, angry, pissed off at myself, I was not in the mood for a boat ride to anywhere. I need coffee, a lot coffee and maybe some bread, not sure at that point. I really do not remember that day of waiting to board the boat to Morocco....
I think that trip was uneventful, maybe I will ask the others when we talk what happen, IF they remember :)
